About

Mattia in the Loop is a collection of articles about software engineering, with a focus on using AI techniques for development. The name is, as you can imagine, a personalization of the expression 'human in the loop'.

I'm Mattia Minotti, an Italian Software Engineer for 15+ years, currently also an Engineering Manager at a European tech company with the responsibility of leading a division of 45+ engineers across two different countries.

In my professional career, I initially focused on front-end development, primarily Web. I then moved to back-end development on the Java + Spring stack and later on NodeJS. I've also had experience with Scala, Kotlin and C#. I've been a user, advocate, and sometimes teacher of the TypeScript language, which I particularly love. I then worked on cloud architectures, both alongside and sometimes exclusively.

I've worked both as a consultant and in product teams, actively contributing to the creation of several software products currently on the market (I count at least 8), some with 20k+ active customers. I believe I've learned through these experiences the importance of a product mindset and being an active part of the technical and business trade-off.

I believe in the Agile Manifesto, less so in many of its interpretations and applications. I think the guiding star of every team should be continuous delivery.

I find that developer experience is a fundamental and very often undervalued factor for the success of a technology, a platform and generally a tech company.

I love learning and experimenting and the GenAI revolution has been a great opportunity for me. In my early years, I dedicated myself to semantic technologies (at the time we talked about the Semantic Web) and the concrete return of these concepts has sparked great interest in me.

Today I focus on studying the impact of AI on software engineering, the evolution of coding assistance tools and more generally, the new way teams work in the present and future.
